ZATCA Foils Attempt to Smuggle Over 368,000 Amphetamine Pills Concealed in a “Building Block” Shipment at Al-Hadithah Port

12 December 2025

The Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority successfully thwarted an attempt to smuggle an amount of 368,232 Amphetamine (Captagon) pills found concealed within 3 trucks arriving in Saudi Arabia through the port.

ZATCA's official spokesperson, Mr. Hamoud Al-Harbi, stated that when the 3 trucks arrived at the Al-Hadithah port, carrying a “building block" shipment, and underwent routine customs procedures. Upon inspection using advanced security technologies and K9, the pills were found hidden in the shipment by concealing the seized item's cavity of the building block.

Al-Harbi added that after the operation was completed and coordination was made with the General Directorate of Narcotics Control (GDNC) resulting in the arrest of two individuals who were receiving the seized items inside Saudi Arabia.

Al-Harbi emphasized that ZATCA reaffirms its continued commitment via all its customs ports to strengthening customs control over Saudi Arabia's imports and exports and to confronting all smuggling attempts. This effort aligns with one of the core pillars of ZATCA's strategy: enhancing security and protecting society by limiting the entry of harmful substances and other prohibited items.

Al-Harbi urged the public to contribute to combating smuggling in order to safeguard society and the national economy.
