The Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority (ZATCA) has successfully thwarted four smuggling attempts involving more than 261,000 amphetamine pills and 9.8 kilograms of methamphetamine, which were discovered concealed within vehicles and shipments arriving in the Kingdom through King Abdulaziz International Airport, Duba Customs Port, and Al-Batha Customs Port.

ZATCA’s official spokesperson, Mr. Hamoud Al-Harbi, stated that in the first attempt, customs officers at Duba Port foiled the smuggling of 49,929 amphetamine pills hidden inside a shipment of wooden tables. In the second attempt, customs officers at King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah seized 20,209 amphetamine pills concealed in a passenger’s luggage upon arrival. Al-Harbi added that in the third attempt, customs officers at Al-Batha Port intercepted 191,764 amphetamine pills concealed in the floor cavities of a truck. Additionally, another attempt at the same port was foiled, involving 9.8 kilograms of methamphetamine hidden inside a truck entering the Kingdom.

Following the seizures, Al-Harbi confirmed that ZATCA coordinated with the General Directorate of Narcotics Control (GDNC) to ensure the arrest of those expecting to receive the contraband inside the Kingdom. A total of three individuals were apprehended.

He further stressed that ZATCA remains committed to maintaining stringent customs control over the Kingdom’s imports and exports and stands firm against all smuggling attempts. This effort reflects one of the Authority’s core strategic pillars: enhancing security and safeguarding society by curbing the trafficking of narcotics and other prohibited items.
