The Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority (ZATCA) successfully thwarted an attempt to smuggle 646,000 tablets of the narcotic substance “amphetamine” at Jeddah Islamic Port. The pills were found concealed within a shipment arriving in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
ZATCA’s spokesperson, Mr. Hamoud Al-Harbi, explained that the consignment, which was declared as “foodstuff” containing fava beans, was subjected to customs procedures. During inspection using security technologies and K9, the illicit pills were discovered hidden inside the shipment.
Following the seizure, ZATCA coordinated with the General Directorate of Narcotics Control (GDNC), resulting in the arrest of three individuals who were set to receive the contraband inside Saudi Arabia.
He stressed that ZATCA remains committed to maintaining strict customs control over Saudi Arabia’s imports and exports, in order to safeguard society and protect it from such harmful substances. This commitment is pursued through ongoing cooperation and coordination with GDNC.
ZATCA has called on everyone to contribute to combating smuggling and protecting the society and national economy by reaching out to ZATCA's number designated for security reports (1910), via e-mail 1910@zatca.gov.sa or by the international number (009661910). ZATCA, through these channels, receives and follows up reports related to smuggling crimes and violations of the Common Customs Law at strict confidence, with a financial reward given to the whistleblower if the reported information is proven correct.
