The Zakat, Tax, and Customs Authority (ZATCA) at the Al-Batha and Empty Quarter ports successfully thwarted two attempts to smuggle quantities of methamphetamine, commonly known as “Shabu”, which were hidden in two vehicles arriving in the Kingdom through the ports.
In the first incident, ZATCA explained that a truck arrived in the Kingdom via the Al-Batha port. Upon undergoing customs procedures and inspection using security technologies, 1.944 kilograms of Shabu were found hidden in the truck’s side compartments.
In the second incident, ZATCA stated that a vehicle arrived in the Kingdom through the Empty Quarter port. During customs procedures, 4.140 kilograms of Shabu were found concealed in the vehicle’s battery compartment.
ZATCA reported that, after the seizure and confiscation, it coordinated with the General Directorate of Narcotics Control to arrest two individuals suspected of being the intended recipients of the drugs in Saudi Arabia.
ZATCA reaffirmed its commitment to enforcing strict customs controls on the Kingdom’s imports and exports and emphasized its determination to ensure societal security and protect it from such threats, in collaboration with the General Directorate of Narcotics Control.
ZATCA also urged the public to support its anti-smuggling efforts to protect society and the national economy by reporting suspected activities via the designated security report number (1910), email (1910@zatca.gov.sa), or the international number (009661910). ZATCA ensures that reports related to smuggling crimes and violations of the Unified Customs Law are handled with the utmost confidentiality, and financial rewards are granted to whistleblowers providing accurate information.
