The Zakat, Tax, and Customs Authority (ZATCA) has thwarted two attempts to smuggle over 19 kg of Methamphetamine and heroin at the Al-Batha and Al-Wadi'ah Customs Ports. The drugs were discovered hidden in a vehicle and a truck entering Saudi Arabia through these Ports.
ZATCA explained that in the first attempt, Al-Wadi'ah Customs Port was able to thwart an attempt to smuggle 8.5 kg of methamphetamine concealed inside the engine cover of a vehicle arriving through the port. In the second attempt, Al-Batha Customs Port thwarted the smuggling of 10.3 kg of Methamphetamine and 23 g of heroin, which were hidden in the side compartments and refrigerator of a truck entering Saudi Arabia.
Following the seizure, ZATCA stated that the coordination was made with the General Directorate of Narcotics Control to ensure the arrest of the recipients of seizures within Saudi Arabia. Four individuals were arrested.
ZATCA reaffirmed its commitment to customs controls on Saudi Arabia's imports and exports and stands against smuggling attempts. This is in line with its strategy to enhancing the security and protection of society by decrease the smuggling of such harmful substances and other prohibited items.
