Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority sign MoU with Korean Customs

The Zakat, Tax, and Customs Authority and the South Korean Customs signed a memorandum of understanding regarding mutual recognition of an economic operator program approved by the two countries. The MoU was signed in the presence of Suhail bin Mohammed Abanmi, the Authority’s governor, and Ko Kwang-hyo, Korea Customs Service commissioner.

This MoU aims to enhance the security of the supply chain and facilitate trade by exchanging privileges provided to economic operators accredited by customs authorities in both countries. This also contributes to accelerating the clearance of goods at customs ports, enhancing trade exchange, and supporting the economies of the two countries.

The memorandum of understanding was signed when a delegation from South Korea Customs came to the Authority for the third regular meeting between the two sides. At the meeting, strategies for fostering collaboration and a variety of customs-related issues of shared concern were discussed.

In addition, the "Clearance within Two Hours" project, which serves as a distinctive model for coordinating efforts across customs clearing authorities in an effort to strengthen the Kingdom's position as a major hub for logistics, was discussed by the Authority during the meeting. The "Digital Employee" service was also reviewed which aims to improve the quality of digital services offered by the Authority to taxpayers and customers utilizing artificial intelligence technologies and solutions in all sectors of zakat, tax, and customs.

The South Korean Customs Commissioner and the accompanying delegation were given a tour of the Academy of the Zakat, Tax, and Customs Authority and were informed of the educational and technical programs that the Authority's employees take part in to advance their knowledge.
