ZATCA Warns of Fraudulent Text and Email Messages Claiming Refunds or Financial Dues for Taxpayers

05 February 2024

The Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority (ZATCA) again called on its taxpayers and customers not to respond to fraudulent text and email messages claiming refunds or financial dues with the Authority, or to any messages attempting to obtain personal or banking information.

ZATCA explained that such fraudulent practices and acts seek to obtain personal and banking information via suspicious SMS claiming to receive requests to recover amounts paid to the Authority and requesting access to links to provide more information or fill out data forms, despite the fact that the Authority does not request to access to links in its SMS, and it does not ask for bank card information for payment except through the Authority's website (zatca.gov.sa) and the ZATCA app for smartphones.

ZATCA urged the taxpayers and customers to use its channels, including the unified number (19993), which operates 24/7, or the "Ask Zakat, Tax and Customs" account on (X) platform (@Zatca_Care), e-mail (info@zatca.gov.sa), or instant chats via the Authority's website (zatca.gov.sa ), confirming that it receives through these channels all inquiries related to the obligations of taxpayers and customers and all the services it provides.

ZATCA emphasized to all of its taxpayers and customers the importance of protecting themselves from fraud and ensuring the security of their banking and personal information by not responding to messages received from parties impersonating the Zakat, Tax, and Customs Authority. In addition to the need to verify the source of spam messages received before clicking on links to protect their personal data and avoid falling victim to fraud.
