The GCC Customs Union's Board, composed of GCC Customs General Directors, approved appointment of the Governor of the Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority (ZATCA), Eng. Suhail bin Mohammed Abanmi, as Chairman of the Board in the Board's first meeting, marking commencement of its activities to implement the Decision of the GCC Supreme Council issued in session (42) for activating the Customs Union and giving the full powers to perform its functions in accordance with the best practices. 

For his part, Eng. Abanmi extended thanks to the member states for this trust, stressing that the support provided to the Customs Union by the Leaders of GCC is an impetus for exerting further efforts by the Council members, task forces and technical committees in order to complement the Customs Union requirements, address the challenges and improve coordination among the member states.​
